Saying Goodbye to 2015 and Looking Forward to Exciting Events in 2016

As 2015 comes to a close, we look back at 2015 as a year full of traveling, trade shows, and our continuing efforts to provide the highest quality polyester and nylon mesh fabrics and textiles. Our commitment to quality products and services is as strong as it was when we started the company and will always be a priority.

Speaking of starting out, Jason Mills will be marking a milestone in 2016–as we will celebrate our 40^th year in business! This is an anniversary we will celebrate with our dedicated employees and our wonderful clients. Our enthusiasm and excitement will carry us into the new year and we are going to be enjoying this eventful year with pride and joy.

Before we completely close the book on 2015, let’s recap some of the shows we visited this year. We started the year attending and exhibiting at the IFAI Canada Expo on March 12-13 and introduced our new insect netting products. In May we attended the IFAI Outlook Conference in White Sulphur Springs, WV where we networked with other textile industry professionals and learned about the latest industry issues.

At the Techtextil North America Symposium in Houston, TX in June we exhibited our newest screening products for outdoor retailers. This event addressed market developments, technical information, and new products and was an ideal way to bring our outstanding products to customers. August saw us heading to Salt Lake City for the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market Tradeshow. We showcased our new screen fabrics for outdoor applications. With all the news of insect-borne diseases, our products make the outdoors fun again!

The fall was extremely busy! We attended the 2015 IFAI Expo in Anaheim. CA in early October. In mid-October we went to the 2015 AUSA Annual Meeting and Exposition, and later in the month we participated in the SEAMS National Networking Conference in Nashville, TN. Our last event of the year had us travelling to Seattle, WA for the Aeronautical Interior Expo.

2015 was a fulfilling and busy year for us and in 2016 we are looking forward to more of the same! After 40 years in business we’re still going strong and are planning on building on that success for another 40 years at least!

Recapping our Fall Trade Show Calendar

It was a busy time for us this fall as we traveled to different events across the U.S. As we have mentioned before, attending these industry trade shows and conferences is an ideal way to hear what certain industries need in their products and to discuss options and possible solutions we can provide. This fall we attended three events:

2015 AUSA Annual Meeting and Exposition: This land power exposition and professional development forum offered presentations and discussions on military and national security subjects as well as workshops and business meetings. Over 26,000 attendees came from around the world to Washington, D.C. for this event and we were proud to be part of it.

SEAMS National Networking Conference: This event was held on October 29-31 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, TN. At SEAMS, the National Association for the U.S. Sewn Products and Textiles Industries, we participated in educational opportunities, conferences, and networking events designed around the theme of “Spurring Opportunities for Growth.” The conference highlighted strategies, relationships and takeaways to drive growth and improve business.

AIX Expo: The Aircraft Interiors Expo took place on November 4 & 5 in Seattle, WA. Showcasing the latest designs in aircraft interiors, this event allowed us to network with others in the industry to discuss industry trends and where the aircraft interiors business and the airlines industry is moving toward for the future.

Although very different, these three events all cross over into the textile industry. With the connections and information learned from attending these events, we are better able to serve our customers in developing the products they require.

Jason Mills And The IFAI Expo

Last month the annual Industrial Fabrics Expo was held in Anaheim, California. Over 400 exhibitors, including Jason Mills, LLC were present, as were many thousands of attendees. Most of the attendees were serious about seeking out information and suppliers for the current year. Over the last 5 – 7 years we have seen the quality of the buyer improve and engagement usually kept at a serious level. Truth be told, we still had those running from booth to booth looking for your best price.

Those that stopped by our booth saw not only our 50+ standard knit industrial textiles, including our 20-30 stock items, but also development fabrics such as our style 413 for the outdoor trade (UV, water and fire resistant), style 501 for the indoor golf and simulator trade (finely knit for ultra HD imagery and fire resistant), as well as our two layer style 280 exclusively for healthcare industry (fire resistant, ultra load bearing and incredible liquid management).

It is true that exhibiting at trade shows is a costly endeavor, but the takeaway is that there is not any other venue in which you can come face to face with 80-100 potential new customers in a three day period. Along with print advertising, social media and a dynamic website, the trade show is a pillar of any growing company’s marketing plan.

This year’s venue, being on the west coast allowed regional visitors who might not normally make the trip to the familiar textile stomping grounds in the east; we’ll save that for Charlotte in 2016.

Jason Mills Recaps The Outdoor Retailer

The Outdoor Retailer Summer Market show, held annually at Salt Lake City’s Salt Palace Convention Center reported over 50,000 attendees. The sales/marketing/development team from Jason Mills, LLC was among the many visitors this past August who walked the indoor exhibits as well as the associated pavilions and outdoor displays.

Drawing on research gleaned from 2014’s show, we took our newly developed sku # 413 with us to present to as many exhibitors as possible. We found the reactions to this unique product very positive. Possessing a slightly tighter aperture than standard no-see-um (thus not only preventing ticks, but the nymphs from entering a tent’s sleeping area), this material is also UV, water and fire resistant. A major advantage of our style 413 is its ability to remain water resistant while still allowing vapor to transfer, thus making it breathable, but capable of keeping the rain out.

We want to take the time to recognize all of the exhibitors we met and that allowed us to spend time with them. We understand that the venue is created to sell and that your time is precious. Jason Mills Announces 2015 IFAI Expo Attendance

All the biggest names in the specialty fabrics and advanced textiles industry know that attending the annual IFAI Expo is a must. As you might expect, there is a great deal of excitement and anticipation for IFAI 2015 here at Jason Mills. This year’s edition of the influential tradeshow will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA and run from October 6-8. The organizers of IFAI Expo 2015 are predicting a highlight filled-show that will include more than 400 exhibitors, a keynote speech from the inspirational blind adventurer, Erik Weihenmayer, exclusive floor features, educational events, IFF golf tournament, and more.

If you plan on attending the 2015 IFAI Expo, please set aside time to drop by and speak with the team from Jason Mills at booth #458. We are thrilled to be showcasing two of our newest styles. We’ll have Jason Mills style 413, our newest screening product for outdoor screening and tent applications. This mesh has been designed to have an aperture that is small enough to be considered no-see-um, which helps to prevent even tick nymphs from getting through while still allowing for air flow.

We will also have our Jason Mills style 501 on display. This fabric is made for golf simulator screens and was designed to show clear, crisp images on the screen with minimal bounce and low noise.

Jason Mills to Attend Outdoor Retailer Summer Market Tradeshow

Each year we try to attend or exhibit at tradeshows and conferences to stay abreast of the latest advancements in the technical textile industry. This year, we’ll be attending the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market Tradeshow in Salt Lake City, UT. The conference runs from August 5^th-8^th and Jason Mills will be walking the floor the 5^th-7^th.

The event will present the latest summer market products in the outdoor retailer equipment industry, including innovations in outdoor sports apparel and products, ranging from camping to yoga. The tradeshow is one of the most comprehensive and largest outdoor sport show of its kind catering to a specialty audience. In addition to exhibits, attendees will also be able to attend educational sessions and training opportunities, events, and see the Open Air Demo.

We’re excited to see some of the innovations on hand at the show and we’ll even be bringing along some of the new screen fabric ideal for outdoor applications. This material has a porosity tighter than no-see-em porosity to prevent ticks and nymphs from penetrating. It is also UV, FR and water resistant. Textile Industry Growth, Opportunities and Issues

Earlier this year we discussed the continued growth of the technical textile industry. Technological advances in areas such as nano textiles and carbon fibers are two such examples of how technology can open opportunities and advance the expansion of the industry as a whole.

The National Council of Textile Organization (NCTO) Chairman Jeff Price recently discussed some of the issues that will be explored in 2015. This includes pending international trade agreements such as the Transpacific Partnership (TPP) and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). The group will also be working on industry expansion, new markets, and new products. The feeling is that as the industry continues to expand through the application of US developed and manufactured fibers and textiles we will have a stronger voice to help mold these agreements in a positive fashion.

At Jason Mills we’re optimistic that we’ll continue to see growth throughout the year. Like the NTCO we take a keen awareness in seeing that our interests are voiced as various hot button issues move forward.

As far as product development goes, we’ve been focusing particularly on researching new and innovative textiles such as aluminized composites. Standard nonwovens are traditionally used in industries such as housing construction as they are lightweight and inexpensive. However, adjust the product so that a standard non woven becomes a water impermeable composite (yet retaining its vapor permeability), then you have a potential for a game changing result. We are also researching inherently antimicrobial yarns and possible non-traditional applications for these textiles.

Jason Mills Exhibits New Netting at Techtextil North America

At Jason Mills we’re busy gearing up for Techtextil North America! This year the expo will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, TX from June 2-4,2015. The conference brings together professionals in the technical textiles and nonwovens industry and allows for attendees to meet with exhibitors and attend the Techtextil North America Symposium, which will address market developments, technological information, new processes and products, and industry trends. Jason Mills has exhibited at the technical textiles expo in the past and this year we will be bringing our newest product to show attendees.

This mesh has been specially designed to have an aperture that is small enough to be considered a no-see-um mesh, which can prevent mosquitos and ticks from penetrating but is also so small it can keep out tick nymphs while still allowing for air ventilation. This mesh also has additional value added qualities such as being fire, UV, and water resistant. This product can be used in applications such as tent windows, sleeping bags, light diffusion, and more. There is truly no other screening product like it on the market.

IFAI 2015 Outlook Conference

Jason Mills will be attending the IFAI Outlook Conference in White Sulphur Springs, WV on May 18-19, 2015. The conference was created by the United States Industrial Fabrics Institute (USIFI) and the Narrow Fabrics Institute (NFI), divisions of IFAI and provides a forum for the specialty textile sector.

Our company tries to attend every year as this industry event allows us to learn about the full spectrum of the textile industry. Over the course of two days the conference will provide us with information about yarns and fibers, trade issues, legislative issues, economic issues.

Some of the speakers include, Dr. Raman Kumar who will be discussing the current US and global economic conditions as well as what the outlook means fur US businesses. Gail Strickler and Josh Teitelbaum will provide an update on the TPP and TTIP legislation, and Carole Winterhalter will give a military update on the current and future needs of protective textiles.

Textile Manufacturing Returning to the US

A recent Textile World article finds that the US textile and apparel industries are expecting improvement and growth in 2015. This economic improvement is due to several factors, including reshoring efforts, a rising cost of doing business overseas, mills having more capital spending, and rising profits. Innovation also plays a large factor and the article mentions that the textile industry is continually working on creating better performing products. Technical textiles are now being applied to many new niche areas, (we’ve even touched on some of the medical textile innovations in a past blog post).

Innovation should play an even larger role as the US government recently announced its textile innovation competition. The program, led by the Department of Defense, will use $500 million in public-private investment to help strengthen US manufacturing by investing in new technologies for textiles. The Revolutionary Fibers and Textiles Manufacturing Innovation Institute will serve as a hub for companies, universities, and other academic and training institutions to conduct research and development on new manufacturing technologies.
